Overview

IDEAL ELECTRIC is a proven supplier of bespoke electric motor and generator technology in the electrification of hydraulic fracturing fleets. Electric Frac, or “eFrac”, replaces conventional diesel engines and transmissions with electric motors for the drive of high-pressure, high-volume reciprocating pumps. Rather than diesel fuel, power for the Frac process is generated by on-site gas turbines fueled from the well or an electrical grid-tie if available. The electric motor drive of the pumps offers greater power density, more control of the process, elimination of transmissions and gearboxes, improved reliability, and significant operational savings.

IDEAL has experience with multiple eFrac concepts, including the invention of a novel topology, and is uniquely positioned to offer induction, synchronous, switched-reluctance, and permanent magnet motors and generators from low to medium voltage, conventional torque/speed to direct-drive, air or liquid-cooled enclosures, in form factors explicitly suited to the Frac.

eFrac Fleets are particularly challenged in packaging to meet pump trailers and mobile power generation road-going requirements. IDEAL’s approach is to work with our stakeholders throughout the conceptual and design process to balance choices in technology and topology with the demands of lightweight, compactness, power-density eFrac Fleets require.
